Showing help on '@surface'

Syntax: @surface
@surface <room>
@surface floor|walls|ceiling is <surface>
@surface floor|walls|ceiling of <room> is <surface>
@surface floor|walls|ceiling [of <room>] is none
@surface <area>
@surface floor|walls|ceiling of <area> is <surface>|none

Says what a room's floor, walls and ceiling are made of. The floor decides the footstep sound in the room; all three shape its reverb.

With no surface named, @surface shows the three slots of the room (here, if you name none): the surface, the detail that carries it, and whether the detail is the room's own or shared from a parent room.

Setting a surface puts it on one of the room's details. A detail already named or aliased floor, ground, wall, walls or ceiling is used; otherwise one is made. Players can look at it (`look floor').

`none' clears the room's own surface. An unset slot uses the default reverb, and an unset floor sounds like concrete. If a parent room shares a surface (the Defiant's deck plating is metal), clearing your own shows the shared one again.

You must control the room. A surface that is not registered, or a floor that cannot be walked on, is refused and the valid names are listed. `to' may be used in place of `is'.

A surface set on an area applies to every room inside it unless the room sets its own. Inner areas override outer areas, and area surfaces precede parent room defaults.
