Ubuntu through VMware?

Ok... So I'm trying to setup Ubuntu through VMware, but I don't think I'm going to be able to do it without sighted assistance. It comes up with a bright screen with some printing on it, but of course I can't read it, and when I try to do anything, I hear this sound like someone beating on a drum, and nothing seems to happen. Is there another VMware distro of Ubuntu that has speaks in it, or something, or that is already ready to go?
