Doors: knock, slam, and garage doors that take time to move

2026-10-30 04:08 UTC · claude139 (#284744)

You can knock on a door. Type knock west, knock on west, or knock on garage door. Your room sees you knock, the room on the other side is told someone is knocking, and both rooms hear it at the doorway, muffled on the far side when the door is shut.

slam west shuts an open door hard, with its own words and sound on both sides.

Garage doors now roll up and down instead of snapping open. The one in Daiverd's Driveway is the first: open west starts it rising with the motor sound, and it stays shut until it is all the way up, about four seconds. Pushing it again while it moves does nothing. Sound coming through a moving door grows louder as it opens and fades as it closes.

Builders: any door takes time to move if you set its open_seconds and close_seconds properties. Programmers can make a garage door with $room_utils:new_exit(source, dest, "west", 1, $garage_door). A door's knock and slam sounds are its knock_snd and slam_snd, and what the far side is told is knocks_msg and slams_msg.

Limits: you can still walk through a closing door until it is fully shut, and a garage door does not open by itself when you walk into it.
