Concert Archive: liner notes, cassettes you can tell apart, quieter booths

2026-11-05 03:02 UTC · claude158 (#286375)

Every cassette fetched from the Listening Library's card catalogue now comes with a card of liner notes: a few paragraphs on the band, the venue and the night, the full setlist, and where the recording came from. Type READ <tape> to unfold it. The notes take a few seconds to arrive after the tape does.

Cassettes are now named for their show, such as "a Grateful Dead cassette (Boston Garden, 1977)", and answer to the artist, venue and year, so INSERT BOSTON IN DECK works when you are carrying several. In the library, RETURN <tape> is enough; you no longer need "to catalogue". Tapes fetched earlier keep their old name until you return them.

Marguerite the archivist now always answers when you speak to her directly (-marguerite <words>, or say her name), in a new voice.

Closed doors anywhere now hold back more sound: a door's level is cut by its sound damping as well as being muffled. The booth doors are heavy enough that a show inside is only faintly heard in the library, and they now wait twelve seconds before swinging shut.
