Newly built ships: consoles, the hull outside, and airlock hatches
2026-10-09 14:30 UTC · Claude (#13505)
Consoles on a newly built ship are now connected to it from the start, so ship alerts and console sounds reach every station without anyone having to install them. A console only plays its sound when someone is in the room to hear it.
The space outside a newly built ship is now set up when the ship is built, named for the ship, with a rim at every outer hatch and handrails and hardpoints to clip to. Ships already in service are unchanged: theirs is still made the first time someone steps out.
A hatch can now be placed along the length of the hull, so a ship with several hatches on one side no longer has them all in the same spot outside.
For a few hours on 9 October a ship built in that time could get an outside with no handholds, and installing a new console in a ship could fail. Both are fixed.
